Okay, after I read =AnimationFan's last journal, I finally had the courage to write something actually serious here.

As an opening, I want to introduce you to something I’ve been very interested lately:
Judaism. Yes, Judaism. Fun story of how I came to be interested in it.
I was watching the South Park episode “Mr. Hankey’s Christmas Classics”, when it came the Dreidel song just at the beginning. I really liked that song, and decided to Google it if I find an MP3 file of it or something. I found an article about it on Wikipedia, where it also explained the game. I got interested in Chanukah stuff and began reading the whole “Jews and Judaism” section. Until it came, the ‘it’ you can’t avoid: Anti-Semitism. But I didn’t stop there. I went further in that subject, and finally ended in the one about the Holocaust. I was suddenly interested in everything about Jews, especially events in WWII. Btw, in the last two week I bought two books about Judaism, one about Anti-Semitism and I got “Schindler’s List” from the library.
Just letting you know. That’s why I got interested in WWII. Now the real question can come.



As all of you know, I live in Germany. And as all of you know, Germany has done some really, REALLY fucked up shit in the last century. Especially in the '30ies and '40ies. You know what I'm talking about. World War II. Or WWII. As you want to call it.
Since the end of that horrible autocracy, Germany has a kinda... bad fame. Not necessary in Europe, but mostly in other parts of the world.

Two examples for this:
1. Our history teacher told us that he had a German female friend that once went to a university in Denver to study history. The students there were taking the subject "Nazism" and, well, he told us that his friend was pretty bullied there. She always got some dark stares and racistic remarks. One day she just had enough and went to the principal’s. The principal just said she had no idea that was going on. But eventually nothing was done against that.
When the teacher was done telling that, some of the pupils were giggling, but I bet all of them were thinking the same.
2. I read somewhere that two German workers at the Motorola factory in England were also bullied. The fellow employers came up with stuff like ‘fucking Nazis’ or ‘Heil Hitler!’ as in mocking the once used, now forbidden greeting.
The two workers are now out of that factory.

Here in Germany you just take of the subject Nazism in year 9 because the teachers are afraid of the German children getting guilty feelings about this! Seriously! Feeling guilty for something they didn’t do?? What is this world we live in?!
I guess you now understand what I mean. Also there are many offensive posts towards Germany on YouTube.
This people who really act like this, are just being ‘Nazis’ themselves. It’s just as rasictic and intolerant as they were. Well, okay, maybe not AS intolerant AS they were, since Nazis wanted to wipe their ‘enemies’ out of the world map. But still. It is wrong and insulting nevertheless.

First, I want to know what you non-Germans think about this. About Germany, and German people. And this whole journal. Of course, this subject is pretty heavy, but I think it should be discussed so misunderstandings and false thoughts can be avoided.
I really feel neutral about this all. I’m not German, but I live here. It’s strange to sit in class and see your classmates cringing at the thoughts of their grandfathers killing off some Jews. It’s neither nice for me nor for them.
So please, I just want to know how outside people think about this. I’m not judging anyone by their opinion. Feel free to comment and be sincere.
Second, the German ones. Do you feel guilty sometimes? Do you have problems in talking about this? Just as for the other ones, be sincere and free to comment.
